EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
We are excited to announce that with the Orton Bradley Park - Outdoor Education Centre Specialists, we have developed a first for Canterbury students. Linwood North School students are lucky to have the opportunity to attend a day trip where a specialist programme has been designed to extend their personal skills, confidence and build team-work. We are an inclusive school and even our 5 years olds will get the chance to have this fantastic experience.
Note:due to the events in March, these trips are planned to take place in Term 4.
"Education outside the classroom (EOTC) is an essential part of school life in New Zealand. To extend students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom, schools need to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the wider community and the environment.
Students need to learn in a variety of contexts in order to gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values required to enjoy a healthy lifestyle; take responsibility for their own safety; form positive and respectful relationships with their peers, their teachers, and the environment; and participate in the creation of safer communities. Once decisions have been made about what students should learn, consideration needs to be given to how EOTC can best support the teaching and learning priorities. Learning beyond the classroom can support the direction and contribute to the breadth of learning described by the national curriculum."
(MoE EOTC Guideline - Bringing the Curriculum to Life)
There will be opportunities during the year for all classes to take part in education visits arising from children's studies. It is also part of our policy to involve Year 3 - 6 children in camps involving overnight stays. Parent help is required and is always much appreciated.
Parent help on excursions is essential and any offers of transport or supervision at these times is greatly appreciated. All drivers must hold a current driver's licence and Vehicle Inspection Certificate and be able to provide seat belts for their passengers.
